Notifications

Push notifications are how you find out about shift offers. When your agency offers you a shift, you get a notification on your phone — tap it to open the offer and accept or decline. This page explains how to set notifications up and what to do if you're missing alerts.

Enable push notifications

The first time you open the app after installing it, you'll be asked to allow notifications. Tap Allow. If you missed this prompt or accidentally denied it, follow the steps below to enable notifications manually.

Enable on iPhone (iOS)

  1. Go to your iPhone's Settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap Safari (or the browser you used to install the app).
  3. Tap Notifications and ensure Subshift is set to Allow.
  4. Alternatively, open the app, tap Settings → Notifications, and follow the in-app prompt.

Note

Push notifications from PWAs on iOS require iOS 16.4 or later. If your iPhone is older, you'll rely on SMS or email notifications instead.

Enable on Android

  1. Open your phone's Settings → Apps.
  2. Find Chrome (or whichever browser you used).
  3. Tap Notifications and ensure notifications are allowed.
  4. Or: open Chrome, tap the three-dot menu → Settings → Site settings → Notifications, find the Subshift URL, and set it to Allow.

SMS and email fallbacks

If push notifications aren't available or enabled, Subshift falls back to SMS or email for shift offer alerts. These arrive at the phone number and email address in your profile. Make sure both are up to date.

Tip

Push notifications are faster and more reliable than SMS for responding to time-limited shift offers. Enable them if at all possible.

Troubleshooting missed notifications

If you're not receiving shift offer alerts, work through this checklist:

  • Notifications allowed? — Check your browser/OS settings as described above.
  • App installed to home screen? — Push notifications only work when the app is installed as a PWA. If you're accessing it through a browser tab without installing, push alerts may not work.
  • Battery saver mode (Android)? — Battery saver can block background notifications. Try disabling it, or add Subshift / Chrome to the exception list in your phone's battery settings.
  • Do Not Disturb? — Check your phone's DND settings. On iPhones, you can add the app as an exception in Focus → Allowed Apps.
  • Phone storage full? — A very full phone can prevent notifications. Free up space and try again.
  • Still not working? — Contact your agency and ask them to check your notification settings on their end.
